2. Texas A&M football running back Devon Achane will make a Heisman run

The clear superstar of the offense is running back Devon Achane. Achane will receive the bulk of the carries for the first time in his career, and it will be interesting to see how he handles the increased workload in 2022.

I think he will handle it just fine. For that matter, I believe he will run—no, sprint with the opportunity given to him. Averaging over seven yards per carry on 173 attempts is nothing to gloss over. He also averages 12.3 yards per reception with 29 catches in his career. He will be effective both on the ground and through the air.

In an offense without any truly proven star receiving option (barring a breakout season from someone), Achane is going to see a ton of touches in 2022. He will have the volume, and there’s not a doubt about that.

Even if his YPA goes down to 5.5-6 for the season, with 200 carries, he could easily get 1100-1200 yards on the ground. Throw in 35 receptions on 10 YPC, that’s another 350 yards. That’s nearly 1500 yards from scrimmage, and say he gets 12-16 total touchdowns on the season, that is a Heisman-candidate season.

That is assuming his averages take a hit with the volume as well. A big season is ahead for the star running back. If everything goes right for him and he is the priority of the offense, Achane could be seeing himself in New York for New Year’s.
