Texas A&M football opens the season with Sam Houston State. We all know the star players like quarterback Haynes King, all-purpose player Ainias Smith, running back Devon Achane, and defensive backs Demani Richardson and Antonio Johnson.

I am going to give you seven players that you should keep an eye on during the SHSU game. By the end of the season, these players very well could become household names around the college football world.

1. WR Evan Stewart

Evan Stewart, the five-star true freshman sensation out of Liberty High School, was the nation’s No. 2 rated receiver out of the 2022 class by 274Sports. I know this is not much of a surprise pick, but I still think A&M fans don’t realize the type of generational talent we are getting ready to witness this season. Stewart has been the talk of spring and fall camp. Every reporter and news outlet is recording him when they are allowed in practice and he has yet to disappoint.

You will want to watch every time Stewart gets the ball thrown his way. He is likely to break wide open down the field or grab the ball out of the air for an impressive play. Get your popcorn and soda before the game starts, because you won’t want to miss a single play by this young man. He will be the breath of fresh air that the Aggies have needed after years of frustration by the WR group not living up to expectations.

Stewart will allow other players like Ainias Smith and Chase Lane to have some of their best seasons ever because defenses will try to make sure the young wideout does not do too much damage. With King dropping dimes and extending plays with his feet, the wideouts will likely be the most improved unit on the field this season, and it all starts with the big play ability of Evan Stewart.
