7. The running backs behind Devon Achane

We all know that Devon Achane is going to steal the show this fall at RB. But Achane can’t take all the snaps this fall at RB as he is too valuable elsewhere on the field, and he needs to stay healthy.  Who will run away with the RB2 role? Amari Daniels, #4, should make a great case against SHSU as I expect him to get most of the snaps behind Achane.

I don’t see Achane playing much past the second half so there should be plenty of touches to go around for the backups. LJ Johnson (#34), the redshirt freshman, has been getting praise during fall camp and he has a chance to impress against SHSU. LeVeon Moss is the wild card as a true freshman with lots of potential. We could see him carry the rock a few times on Saturday. I would not overlook him to earn time at RB2, but I think he will be waiting behind the very talented Daniels and Johnson.

Against the Bearkats, we should get an idea of what the RB group looks like behind the superstar. I will be looking to see who emerges this fall as the backup. Get ready for an exciting season at running back because it will not just be Achane making big plays out of the backfield.
