Defense

The defense was outstanding. I understand it was against Sam Houston State, but this defense was electric all day (literally) long. They didn’t let the Bearkat offense get into a rhythm at all and allowed under 200 total yards all game.

They not only hardly let them gain anything anywhere, but they also stepped up time and time again in big moments. They allowed only one third down conversion in 12 attempts, which is pure domination.

The defense flew all over the field, making SHSU quarterback Jordan Yates’ life miserable. He did rack up 60 yards on the ground, which was probably the biggest issue for the defense, but the fact that their leading rusher only gained that is still impressive.

There was pressure from the defensive line all night and the secondary did their job very well. They also forced two turnovers, which will be a big point of focus for this defense this season. This was about as good of a way to start the season that anyone could’ve imagined for the Aggie defense.
