Texas A&M Football: 3 takeaways from Week 1 vs. Sam Houston State
This defense is for real
If this game is anything to judge by, there has been absolutely zero drop-off from Mike Elko’s departure to DJ Durkin’s arrival. The Aggies held a potent Sam Houston offense to zero points and under 200 total yards. The defensive line mauled the Bearkats’ front, getting pressure on almost every snap and forcing quarterback Jordan Yates into early throws or scrambles, not letting him get comfortable at all.
It doesn’t stop there. The corners were veritably stuck to the receivers all game, making plays down the field, and the linebackers, thought to be the biggest question mark on the defense, flowed well to the ball and, in Andre White’s case, snagged an INT. This was a dominating defensive performance, and I’m excited to see where they can take us this season.
