After a Week 1 win against Sam Houston State, Texas A&M football checks in at No. 6 in the Associated Press’s Week 2 edition of the AP Poll. The Aggies hold their position after starting the year ranked 6th, but a rough win at home wasn’t enough to convince voters to buy more stock in A&M.

This isn’t bad news whatsoever, however, it was a bit of a surprise that the Aggies didn’t get bumped up after Notre Dame, who was ranked one spot ahead of A&M before Saturday, dropped their first game against Ohio State. Instead, the voters opted to move Michigan up to No. 4 after a 51-7 win against Colorado State.

Texas A&M did receive a bump up in voting points, for what that’s worth. Last week, the Aggies had 1,212 points, and this week they received an 29 points, scoring them out at 1,241 points. This puts the Aggies 39 points behind Clemson, who fell to No. 5 this week.

For this poll update, the SEC now claims an NCAA-high eight spots in the top-25. Three SEC teams check in within the top-6, that being Alabama (1), Georgia (2), and Texas A&M. Florida (12) and Tennessee (24) both make jumps into the poll after initially being unranked.

No conference teams dropped out of the rankings this time around. Out of the SEC teams, Florida was the biggest riser and Ole Miss was the only team to drop, that being just one spot to No. 22.

The USA Today Sports AFCA Coaches Poll also dropped today, and the Aggies moved up one spot, from No. 7 to No. 6. Every SEC team in the AP Poll made the top-25 of the Coaches Poll as well except for Tennessee, which was the first team out at No. 26.

It will be interesting to see what a possible win against Appalachian State does for the Aggies and their positioning in the polls. With what the Mountaineers did on Saturday, they have earned more respect than they had prior to the game, so a win could be more convincing to voters.
