Texas A&M football lost in a stunner 17-14 vs Appalachain State. They clearly have some adjustments and self-reflecting to do. With a roster full of four and five star guys, losing to Appalachian State is simply unacceptable.

From the coaches, to the players, to the execution, the whole team is to blame for the loss on Saturday. Let’s take a look at who came to play and who did not.

Studs

RB Devon Achane

You can pretty much sum up Texas A&M’s offense and scores in two plays by running back and special teams player Devon Achane. Texas A&M’s RB was the highlight reel on Saturday. When the offense was sputtering the speedster Achane found the end zone twice.

His first TD was a 26-yard run and the second was an impressive kick return that made A&M fans have flashbacks to last year vs Alabama.  Unfortunately, those would be Texas A&M’s only scores of the game. Achane put the team on his back and did all he could to will A&M to a victory.

LB Chris Russell Jr.

Chris Russell Jr., the senior Linebacker, was all over field Saturday trying to contain App State’s offense. The LB had an impressive showing with 5 solo tackles and 11 tackles total.

Everywhere the ball went, #24 was flying towards it to make a big play. The highlight of the game was the shared sack he had with Shemar Turner. I am expecting big things from Russell this season. He is a playmaker and stat machine.

DE Tunmise Adeleye

Tunmise Adeleye had 4 solo tackles and 5 total on the day. He was all over the place and creating pressure on Chase Brice, App State’s QB. It seemed like when the Aggies needed a play on defense Adeleye was there get the job done.

The defensive lineman went down early in second half which was disappointing after seeing him flash on the field. He did later return to the game which was great news. With the second start of the season for #30 we should see plays from him all season long.

DL Shemar Turner

Shemar Turner has to be one of the most exciting players along the defensive front for the Aggies. He had 5 tackles with half a sack. Like a bull in china shop, #5 made impressive plays that got the fans at Kyle Field excited.

Turner was able to push his way up the middle to grab a hold of Chase Brice to sack him on his biggest play of the game. You can count on Turner to get you highlights every week for the Aggies, so be looking for #5 on the field this fall.
