After Appalachian State got the best of Texas A&M football last Saturday, ESPN’s College GameDay figured it would be a great idea for them to spend this weekend in Boone, North Carolina; the home of the Mountaineers.

To start, this was a missed opportunity as College Station could have hosted College GameDay if not for being upset by App State. According to ESPN’s Rece Davis, the original plan was to spend this weekend at Texas A&M, but after the Mountaineers pulled off the upset, they pivoted to Appalachian State instead.

Another event which relates to the Aggies is that a fan on the set of College GameDay won free tuition for a year because of a sign he was holding. The sign had the A&M logo on it and read underneath “The Only ATM That Lets You Withdraw $1.5 Million”.

Although it is a good play on words, there is context needed for this. Reports were that the Aggies paid Appalachian State $1.5 million to play in College Station and essentially win. Although the original plan was that the university would cover the tuition for a year of the one with the best College GameDay sign, they ended up covering three students’ tuitions instead—a great gesture by Chancellor Sheri Everts.

The final bit of College GameDay worth of note was the predictions by the four people; Pat Mcafee, Lee Corso, guest picker Luke Combs, and Desmond Howard—who picked the Aggies to win the National Championship prior to Week 1.

Three of the four pickers chose Texas A&M to upset Miami today, those being Mcafee, Combs, and Howard, while Corso opted with the Hurricanes. The fan vote also ended in favor of the Canes, with 62% of fans voting for Miami.
