Texas A&M Football: 3 takeaways from Aggies’ bounce-back win over Miami
Devon Achane showed his versatility
On a night where the offense had issues with consistency, Devon Achane came to the rescue several times. He started off the night with a bang, almost breaking the opening kickoff return for a touchdown, but setting up the Aggie offense with advantageous field position all the same. He contributed several explosive plays in both the run and pass game— five of his 18 runs went for 10+ yards, and he added a 25-yard reception to boot.
Overall, Achane ended the night with 4.9 YPC despite an up-and-down game efficiency-wise to go along with four receptions for 42 yards. He recorded one of the Aggies’ two touchdowns on the aforementioned 25-yard pass from Max Johnson in the early 3rd quarter and would’ve had the other as well if not for a Miami defender grabbing his facemask inside the 5— after the penalty, LJ Johnson came in for a short-yardage run from the 1.
The offense still has a long way to go to get this team where they need to be, but it’s good to see a return to form from Achane given what we saw from him in the first two games. This team will need him to continue to show up, as they face down a brutal three-game stretch before the bye week.
