Texas A&M Football: Way-too-early 2023 record prediction amid schedule release
A way-too-early record prediction for the 2023 Texas A&M football season
The Aggies open the season against New Mexico. The Lobos have not been good in recent history, however, they are 2-1 to start off their 2022 campaign. Regardless, I expect the Aggies to win this one.
They then take a trip to Miami, as they play Hard Rock after just hosting the Hurricanes at Kyle Field. With quarterback Tyler Van Dyke more than likely gone to the NFL after this season, I expect the QB turnover to be too much for the Canes this early, so I’ll take the Aggies here as well.
The Ags then host Louisiana-Monroe. This time, I don’t see a Sun Belt team getting the best of A&M. Another one in the win column.
To open conference play, Auburn comes to town. Auburn will always play any team hard, but there’s just a clear talent gap between what the Aggies and Tigers project to bring in 2023. Chalk up another win for the Aggies.
In Week 5, Texas A&M hosts Arkansas, and this should be a good one. This will honestly depend on if K.J Jefferson returns to school, however, I don’t see that happening. I’ll give this one to the Aggies as well.
This is the big game of the season. Week 6. Hosting Alabama. This should be the game of the week all around college football, and I honestly think it will be closer than people would expect it to be. In fact, with Bama QB Bryce Young more than likely leaving after this season to the NFL, it should be really close. Unfortunately, I expect the Ags to drop their first game of the season here.
Week 7 should be a fun one, as Tennessee will host the Aggies. After a loss to Alabama, I expect the team to be looking for a bounce-back win. Unfortunately, Tennessee is a tough matchup, and having to play in Knoxville is tough, and with spirits likely down, the Aggies may suffer another loss here.
After a two-game skid, the team enters its bye week, to then host South Carolina soon after. With two weeks to reevaluate and prepare for this game, I expect the Aggies to once again hit the ground running, blowing out the Gamecocks at Kyle Field.
For the remainder of November, the Ags face Ole Miss on the road, Mississippi State at home, they then host Abilene-Christian, and finish out the season against LSU in Baton Rouge. The Aggies should be firing on all cylinders at this point, and they should win out against four very beatable teams.
All-in-all, I expect the Aggies to take that next step to being a consistent double-digit win team. With all the top-tier recruiting classes, along with the greatest recruiting class in history, continuing to be developed, the talent is there, now the coaches just have to put it together.
