This one means something to the Aggies

Last year, DJ Durkin’s Ole Miss defense only gave up over 500 yards in one game. That was against the Arkansas Razorbacks, to whom they yielded 676 yards. This has been tossed around as a point of concern for a lot of people, but in my opinion, this will be a plus for the Aggies.

Durkin will have extra motivation for this one after last year. As will the whole Aggie team, after they lost what ended up being a very winnable game—  they were driving to tie up the game in the 4th quarter, after all.

Last year, the Razorbacks were the ones with motivation— coming off a 9-game losing streak and being the lower-ranked team, they were playing open and loose, ready to reverse their fortunes, but now the pressure is on them. Despite FPI, SP+, and EPA projections favoring the Aggies, most of the talking heads and public sentiment have leaned heavily towards the Razorbacks.

Obviously, this one is more subjective, but I really feel as though the Aggies will be the ones who come out playing loose this time.  I think they— Jimbo Fisher included— want this one bad, and I think they’ll do enough to get the job done.
