It’s put up or shut up time for Texas A&M football this weekend as they face off against the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Razorbacks are coming into this game undefeated while the Aggies continue to claw their way back up the rankings after their win against the Miami Hurricanes last week. Adding another win against a team ranked in the top-10 in the nation would be a huge help in climbing back up in the rankings and showing that the loss to Appalachian State was a fluke.

It won’t be an easy task for the Aggies though as they will be facing off against a team ranked 39th in the nation in points scored this season, averaging 37 points per game. They are led by quarterback K.J. Jefferson, whose ability to beat teams with his arm and his legs will be a challenge for this Aggies secondary. Not only do they have a talented quarterback, but they have a dual-threat running back in Raheim Sanders who at this point is averaging 6.7 yards per carry this season.

It’s really going to be a pick-your-poison situation for the Texas A&M football defense; add more players in the box to slow down the Razorbacks’ ground game and risk Jefferson beating you with the pass or drop back and hope your defensive line can handle Sanders and Jefferson running the ball. A tall task for a defense that hasn’t looked like itself the past two weeks, but one we’ve seen them be able to handle in the past. D.J. Durkin will have a lot to sort out before this game to get his guys ready for what really could be a must-win game for the Aggies.

On the offensive side of the football, Texas A&M with Max Johnson under center seemed to take a step in the right direction against a tough Hurricanes defense. Hopefully, they can continue to build on that momentum and find their stride against another stout defense, particularly in the running game where they are allowing an impressive 2.2 yards per carry this season. Jimbo Fisher and the offensive coaching staff are going to need to lean on Johnson to attack this vulnerable Razorback secondary in order to loosen things up for Devon Achane to be effective in the game.

The Aggies are also going to need big games from Ainias Smith and Evan Stewart. It’s imperative that they are able to win off the line of scrimmage and use their speed to quickly find soft spots in the Razorback secondary. Tight end Donovan Green could be another player who has a big game as Johnson’s safety outlet in the middle of the field. This isn’t going to be an easy game to say the least for the Aggies, but I believe they will play their hearts out in this game.
