Texas A&M basketball (14-6, 6-1 SEC) bounces back after their first loss in SEC play with a controlling win over the Auburn Tigers in Neville Arena, 79-63.

After going down early in the first half, it wasn’t the start the Texas A&M basketball team wanted as Auburn came out with a 10-0 run after that, prompting a Buzz Williams timeout shortly after.

“Even in that timeout, I thought we had poise,” Buzz Williams said. “We weren’t out of sorts. “We weren’t rattled.”

And he was right. Rather than being rattled, a Tyrece Radford three hits coming out of the timeout helped the Aggies gain composure and respond with a 5-0 run. After falling behind 23-17 at the midway point of the first half, the Aggies responded in an enormous way, outscoring the Tigers 28-7.

The Aggies took the lead on a Wade Taylor IV layup eight minutes into the first half; after that, they would never trail again. The Aggies finished the half on a 12-2 run and closed the half up 45-30. Tyrece Radford was called on to score minutes into the second half when the Aggies needed a basket, and he did so on multiple attempts when Auburn cut the lead down to single digits. Radford and the supporting cast replied with a basket to keep Auburn trailing, knocking the wind out of the crowd and sending the War Eagle fans out of the stands and home early.

“The poise and the intensity that we played with mentally, physically, and emotionally tonight was, you could argue, as good as it’s been all year,” Texas A&M coach Buzz Williams said.

Tyrece Radford led the charge with 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists, with Wade Taylor IV contributing with 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists.

The Texas A&M basketball team returns to Reed Arena on Saturday night to face Vanderbilt (10-10, 3-4 SEC).
