Let’s take a look at the top uncommitted prospects for the Aggies on the defensive side of the ball.

DL David Stone: IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL)

For the past two years, the duo of Elijah Robinson and Terry Price have snagged the nation’s top defensive lineman.  Were they to sign David Stone, that streak would increase to three years.  Stone is already massive, clocking in at 6’4″ and 270 pounds.  He originally seemed to be trending toward Oklahoma last spring (Stone is originally from OKC before he transferred to talent factory IMG Academy), but has cooled off towards the Sooners since then—though they remain a leader.

The Aggies are no strangers to duking it out with the Sooners for highly-rated defensive linemen—as was the case with both David Hicks and LT Overton—but recent events seem to have Stone trending more towards Mel Tucker and the Michigan State Spartans. Still, that he has plans to come to campus is, as always, a significant fact.

CB Kobe Black: Connally (Waco, TX)

Black is another recent visitor for the Aggies, having come in for their second junior day weekend.  He is the younger brother of Korie Black, a current Oklahoma State Cowboy, and is another highly-recruited talent, being the top corner in Texas and the #20 player in the country per the Composite. The vibes are good between the Aggies and Kobe coming off his recent visit:

Black has yet to name a list of top schools, but Texas A&M football looks to figure in prominently whenever he does so. This is another one that will likely come down to signing day, and will therefore include many twists and turns along the way. As it stands, however, the Aggies are in a strong position for the local standout.

LB Justin Williams – Oak Ridge (Conroe, TX)

After so much hooplah surrounding the Aggies and linebacker recruiting, it would be tough to leave the top linebacker in Texas off of this list.  What’s more, the 6’2″ and 205 pound player hails from the Houston area, where the Aggies have had as much success in recent years as they have had deficiencies recruiting the LB position overall. Perhaps this geographical advantage will aid the Aggies in this recruitment that they sorely need to win.

Williams is not the prospect that either Harold Perkins or Anthony Hill was, but he is massively talented in his own right—enough to land him just outside the top 50 in the Composite rankings. The Aggies need to get him on campus soon—perhaps for the spring game?—and again this fall for a game for me to feel good about this one.  When the defensive coaching staff changes shake out, I think we’ll have a better feel about where the Aggies stand in relation to Williams, who has been rumored to be a current Oregon lean.
