The Texas A&M basketball squad confronts an intimidating Auburn Tigers team tonight, beginning a key run for Buzz’s team.  Four of the next five games for the Aggies are against Quad 1 opponents, making this, without a doubt, the most pivotal segment of the season when it comes time for tournament seeding.

Of course, the Aggies suffered woeful losses (including the the Wofford Terriers, of all teams) earlier in the season that will drag them down come Selection Sunday.  But this stretch offers an opportunity to continue to right those wrongs.  Hardly any team in the country has been playing better basketball than the Aggies over these last few weeks, but Bracketologists™™™ such as Joe Lunardi continue to downplay the chances of the Texas A&M basketball program to make the Big Dance.

This is despite their NET ranking of 40 (up from 43 a week ago, when Lunardi still had the Aggies as the first team out). Not only would a sweep of a good Auburn team go a long way here, but the Aggies still have a game against the 2nd and 3rd-ranked teams in the NET rankings—Tennessee and Alabama—upcoming.  Luckily, the Volunteers and Tide both have to visit Reed Arena (which has been absolutely rocking lately) rather than the Aggies having to go on the road.

Though Lunardi is, obviously, not a committee member, he definitely has good insight into the thought process of those who make the decisions.  There’s opportunity ahead for this Texas A&M basketball squad in this upcoming stretch.  The best way to make your case is to just keep winning. That’s easier said than done, but every team that Buzz has put on the court at Texas A&M has finished stronger and stronger.  I have a good feeling this is the year the Aggies find a way, finally breaking through for the first time in the Williams era, and make the tournament. The stretch run starts tonight against Auburn.
