Texas A&M gets a last second surprise before the start of the season
Texas A&M football fans were given quite a treat the day before the season opener for the Aggies with the commitment of 5-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley. McKinley is one of the top defensive linemen in the class and a huge momentum piece for the Aggies before the season begins.
McKinley is the 38th overall rated player and top rated player out of the state of Louisiana. He is listed at 6’6”, 280 pounds, and has been a monster this past year. He uses his huge size to his advantage, pushing through blocks and constantly disrupting the backfield. He finished his 2023 season with 86 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, including 10 sacks and a pair of interceptions. He will be a fantastic inside lineman for the Aggies if they can hold onto his recruitment until signing day in December.
McKinley is a huge recruiting battle for the Aggies. Louisiana is notoriously difficult to recruit from, and big name schools like Texas and Oklahoma were heavily involved in his recruitment, where many insiders expected him to go. For Jimbo Fisher to pull out a win like that despite the shortcomings of the team last year is extremely impressive, and is a reassurance for momentum of the program.

McKinley gives Texas A&M football the 5th ranked recruiting class, behind Georgia, Ohio State, Florida, and Alabama. With the Aggies still in running with 5 stars like Terry Bussey, who is set to commit on September 8th, and Kobe Black, along with multiple 4 stars; Texas A&M has a realistic shot of landing in the top 3 by the end of the year.
While the Aggies have had enormous amounts of recruiting momentum over the past few months, there is still a way to go until signing day. The Aggies will need to have a good season for many of these commitments to stay on board. With the final commitment of the offseason, all eyes now turn to Jimbo Fisher to see if he can bring a good football season to Aggieland.
