Senior LB for Texas A&M football Edgerrin Cooper was next up. His video is down below as well.

He started off by saying that he wasn’t surprised by the big night from newcomer Josh DeBerry. Cooper said that DeBerry kept the energy for the defense going, explaining that having someone like him is critical and that he’s been an instant impact guy.

Remarking on DJ Durkin’s new role as LB coach, Cooper said that he definitely feels more comfortable in the scheme and with the DC for Texas A&M football coaching the LBs—he keeps it simple and lets them play.

He spoke a couple of times about freshman Taurean York, saying that Taurean has worked hard from the day he got to College Station, and that York even keeps him on his toes. Edge listens to him when he speaks, saying that York already has a voice on the team. He continued later on, saying that York is a special player, loves the game, is always studying film and asking other players to join him. Cooper said that York is a guy you want on your team.

Asked about the great offensive performance for this Texas A&M football team, Cooper said that the offense playing well takes weight off of the defense’s shoulders and keeps the energy going for everyone. Going against the new look offense in practice was a big change for this defense, he said, specifically mentioning that the WRs are big time players.

On the subject of the run defense, Cooper characterized it as “fine.” He said he thought there were little things that need fixing, but the Aggie D needs to keep stacking days. He remarked that the DL has some “animals down there,” and that it was a fun time playing behind them.

Cooper mentioned that he feels a lot better than last year’s opener. He said that people don’t understand how well the team is coming together, with the players hold the standard and everyone pushing towards it. Petrino’s new looks he gave in practice help them in game situations. Asked whether Weigman reminds him of Lamar Jackson, Cooper could only smile and say that Conner can make things happen in the open field.

Next up was freshman Noah Thomas. Here’s his media availability:

Thomas started off by saying that the first TD was his favorite. He mentioned that when he first got here, he knew that Conner had the real talent to make this a special connection, and they have been working every day in practice to improve it. Texas A&M football fans everywhere can see that that connection is already starting to pay huge dividends.

There was a quick concern that Thomas had been nicked up, but he said that he had no injuries and was feeling good. On the subject of executing these deeps shots, Thomas said that it was really fun hearing that play call. He would get hype and had to calm down and just smile. He said that he knew from working hard in practice every day that this Texas A&M football team would show up big in the first game. He closed by remarking that it was amazing seeing all the big plays, and that he loved seeing Evan and his teammates succeed.
