Announcers Set for Texas A&M Football vs ULM Warhawks

The television announcing team for Texas A&M Football’s matchup against the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks has been set.

Play-by-play: Dave Neal
Color Commentator: Derek Mason
Sideline: Taylor Davis

I’m interested to see how Derek Mason, former Vanderbilt head coach and Auburn defensive coordinator, does in his first season in the booth. Mason built a reputation as one of the foremost defensive minds in the country in his time at Stanford, and carried that reputation to Vanderbilt; however, he was unable to get the program off the ground (as has been the case with every Vandy coach in recent memory not named James Franklin) and was eventually dismissed. As the DC at Auburn, he was effective, but left to take a job at Oklahoma State, where he was less so.

Mason made a trip to Kyle Field recently, as head coach of the Commodores in 2020. Dedicated fans will recall the Aggie offense’s struggle to move the ball in that contest, which ended 17-12. That game also included the rare “safety on a punt return,” due to Brian George committing a holding penalty after Ainias Smith pulled his trademark move of returning a punt from far back in his own territory.

The Aggies are coming into this one hoping to display some offensive fireworks, but perhaps more importantly, defensive prowess against the pass. ULM is one of the worst passing teams in the country, so this should be a good opportunity to build some confidence ahead of the conference slate starting against Auburn on the 23rd. The game will air on SEC Network at 4 PM ET/3PM CT.
