Evan Stewart Not Dressed Out for Texas A&M Football

So far this season for the Aggies, Evan Stewart has lived up to the hype. He is currently the second leading receiver in the conference, and third in the nation, by receiving yardage. I predicted earlier this week that he would have a chance to pass the national and conference leader, Xavier Legette of South Carolina, as the Gamecocks take on UGA today and the Aggies face a poor pass defense in ULM.

It looks like that prediction will have to wait, as multiple reports are indicating that Stewart is not suited up for the game today.

This is not a huge loss for the Aggies today given that it’s only ULM, but you never want to see one of your best players dealing with an injury. That said, I agree with how man of the people AggiesToday put it on X (formerly Twitter):

Late in the game last week, Stewart took a huge hit on one of the final drives. It was initially ruled targeting but then overturned due to, in all likelihood, a technicality of the rule. Stewart sustained a big hit to the head, but there was no “indicator” that the referee could use to confirm the call.

Like AT mentioned, I would rather lean towards safety when you’re dealing with one of your top players. This could also be a chance for a guy like Moose Muhammad to get some reps in, as he hasn’t been featured heavily thus far.

In any case, we hope Stewart recovers quickly, as Texas A&M football begins SEC play next week. They’ll need him sooner rather than later—but hopefully not today.
