Texas A&M Football and Auburn’s History

Texas A&M football and the Auburn Tigers are set for a big momentum matchup on Saturday September 23rd as both teams enter conference play. After 11 years of the two teams playing in the SEC, what have the matchups looked like?

Texas A&M currently leads the series 7-6, with 11 matchups coming after Texas A&M moved to the SEC in 2012. The Aggies and the Tigers played twice before then, once in 1911, where the Aggies won 16-0, and again in 1986 for the Cotton Bowl, where the Aggies won 36-16.

Since 2012, however Auburn leads the series 6-5. It has been very back and forth throughout the years, with the away team winning every game between 2012-2017. Auburn broke the streak in 2018 with a win at home and followed in 2019 with a win in College Station. The Aggies then won twice in a row in 2020 and 2021, but Auburn took another win in 2022. The Aggies have scored 368 points compared to Auburn’s 296. Texas A&M’s biggest win was a 63-21 win in 2012, while Auburn’s biggest win was 26-10 in 2015.

Historic Aggie moments:

During the 2021 matchup between 15th ranked Texas A&M and Auburn, both sides were having a rough day offensively. In a game that ended 20-3, Micheal Clemons returned a strip sack for the only touchdown of the day.

In 1986, 11th ranked Texas A&M’s renowned wrecking crew defense faced 16th Auburn running back Bo Jackson. Jackson had won the Heisman Trophy that year and it appeared that no one would stop him. Going into the 4th quarter, Jackson had 2 touchdowns and had the ball at the 6 yard line with the score 21-16. Jackson received the ball 4 times in a row, and each time was turned away, resulting in a turnover on downs. Texas A&M would go on to score 15 points in the 4th quarter, creating a 20 point blowout thanks to the wrecking crew.

Texas A&M is predicted to win Saturday’s game by 7.5 points, but Auburn has many weapons on offense under Hugh Freeze and could put up some points. Texas A&M and Auburn have had many entertaining moments, and in a must win game for both teams, we should see a great game come Saturday.
