3 Reasons Texas A&M Football Wins Big In SEC Opener

This is it, folks. Conference play begins merely twenty four hours from now. The time is now to start changing the narrative. Now, that’s not something that is going to happen overnight—casual fans will be more than happy to dismiss a win this weekend and next as “low-quality,” given the perception of Auburn and Arkansas—but if you lose, you suffer a major blow in that regard.

Another reason that a win in this one game won’t change many people’s perceptions of the Texas A&M football program is that most people currently expect the Aggies to win. Thus, the Aggies taking the victory here will be noted, but unless something special happens in the game—which you can’t discount as a possibility when you have Conner Weigman as your quarterback—I’m not sure the Aggies will be the buzz of the nation, especially when you consider that you’re up against FSU-Clemson in your timeslot.

It’s fine to be doubted, though. I think this team may like it that way, in all honesty, especially after last year. It’s hard to know when they’ll really announce themselves on the national scene, though you have to think a victory over Alabama—no matter what the Tide are ranked come week 6—would do the trick. A quick look at that week’s schedule would suggest that the Aggies’ showdown with the Tide is destined for the 3:30 slot on CBS and will likely be the most watched game of the weekend.

All that is conjecture and forward-looking at this point, though. Let’s talk about the game before us.
