College Football Week 4 Best Games

We once again return, as hogs to the slop, to our TV viewing schedule for college football week 4. And no, that “hogs to the slop” thing is not a reference to Arkansas visiting LSU this week (7 PM ET, 6 PM CT, ESPN).

College Football Week 4: Early Slate

First Screen: Auburn @ Texas A&M (12 ET/11 CT, ESPN)
If you are confused by this placement, I once again ask, just as I did last week, that you consider the name of this website and the color of the banner atop the page. Auburn limps into this one with a lot of injuries, but at 3-0, whereas the Aggies are mostly healthy but 2-1. The home team is favored here, and the lines have been growing late in the week.

Second Screen: 4 FSU @ Clemson (12 ET/11 CT, ABC)
I think most fans are expecting FSU to absolutely destroy the Tigers, 2013-style, in this game. A suspiciously close line (FSU -1.5 via Fanduel Sportsbook) has me very wary about this one, though. It’s no easy task to take down Clemson at home, and I feel like the Tigers may have something special for this one. I would think the Seminoles would rather come in as a slight dog than be so heavily expected to win—in the court of public opinion, I mean, because as I just said, the sportsbooks see this one closer than a lot of fans do.

College Football Week 4: Afternoon Slate

First Screen: 15 Ole Miss @ 13 Alabama (3:30 PM ET/2:30 PM CT, ESPN)
If Lane Kiffin doesn’t beat Alabama now, then when will he? The Rebels bring a much more high-powered offense into Tuscaloosa than the Longhorns have (per most any metric), though not quite as solid of a defense. Can the Tide actually score some points? Can they perform in the clutch? Conversely, has Ole Miss’s dominance just been the result of a weak schedule and catching Tulane without their star QB? I think we’ll learn a lot about both teams here. Or maybe we won’t! That’s also a possibility.

Second Screen: 19 Colorado @ 10 Oregon (3:30 ET/2:30 CT, ABC)
I don’t have the time zone conversion tables in front of me, but going off of gut feel, I’m going to say this one kicks off at roughly 5:30 AM Pacific Time. The Ducks put up 81 on Portland State in the first game of the year, which I guess means we’ll find out if Colorado’s defense is worse than Portland State’s.

College Football Week 4: Evening Slate

First Screen: 6 Ohio State @ 9 Notre Dame (7:30 PM ET/6:30 PM CT, NBC)
There are a lot of people who like to say things like “they don’t play real college football in the midwest.” That “you have to come down south to see real college football.” When I hear comments like that, and I see a game like this on the schedule, I can only say one thing to those people: “yeah pretty much”

Second Screen: 14 Oregon State @ 21 Washington State (7 PM ET/6 PM CT, FOX)
This is one of close to 8 or 9 matchups we will be seeing from the “PAC-2” conference over the next two years, and—wouldn’t you know it—they’re both ranked! Probably the most exciting thing about these two teams only having each other to play in-conference in the near future is the adjustments the coaches will make from game to game. Really cool dimension that you don’t have often in CFB.

Wait, that’s not how this is happening?

College Football Week 4: “You Don’t Really Need To Watch Washington Play That Bad” Slate

First Screen: Cal @ 8 Washington (10:30 ET/9:30 CT, ESPN)
Pay no heed to the title that this slate has. You should watch Washington. See Michael Penix dice up the Cal Golden Bears next to a lake at beautiful Husky stadium! Or watch Cal win, I don’t know! These teams are on too late for me!

Second Screen: 5 USC @ Arizona State (10:30 PM ET/9:30 CT, FOX)
One does not simply walk into Tempe! Remember that meme from the Lord of the Rings? Man… what a different time. Anyway, not accurate. Arizona State will probably get ran.
