Newcomer to Texas A&M Football Making Waves

Ever since Texas A&M football earned the commitment of Taurean York, the buzz around the young man was palpable. The Aggies didn’t come to York until later in the process—as all Aggie fans well know, the top LB recruit in the nation had committed to A&M and then flipped for the second year in a row at that point. Taurean was a Baylor pledge for some time before this Texas A&M football staff came calling, but he knew that the offer of playing linebacker in the SEC was too good to pass up. His coaches raved about his dedication and work ethic, and he—despite being one of the lowest rated members of the Aggies’ 2023 signing class—began to have his name mentioned a lot by those close to the program as soon as he stepped on campus.

As the season approached, Texas A&M football fans began to hear rumblings that York may be a starter come day one. Sure enough, when toe met leather against New Mexico, #21 was right there in the middle of the Aggie defense, making calls, reading keys, and filling gaps. Since then, York hasn’t missed a beat, and has proved himself to be not only an extremely cerebral player, but a consummate leader and physical presence on the defensive side of the ball.

People outside of the maroon bubble are now starting to take notice of Taurean, as he has earned the honor of being named the 247Sports True Freshman of the Week after his performance against Auburn, where he recorded a game-high 11 tackles, 2 TFLs, and 0.5 sacks. You could see York in the right spot on pretty much every play, and he was key in shutting down what was the leading rushing offense in the SEC before Saturday. It’s been too long since the Aggies have had a pure linebacker of Taurean’s quality, and the impact he has already made has been vital to this defense. I’m excited to see where he goes from here and how high he can fly. Congrats, Taurean!

Next. 3 takeaways from a huge win over Auburn. dark
