Report: Texas A&M Football QB Could Miss Rest of Season

Well, this sucks.

After positive reports near the beginning of the week regarding Conner Weigman’s prognosis and timeline, some saying he could even be back as soon as the Alabama game in two weeks, a new report by Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle has a much more dour outlook on things.

"Texas A&M sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman’s lower leg injury is worse than previously thought, according to multiple program insiders.Weigman might miss the rest of the season after further tests revealed a more extensive injury than a bad sprain."

This is about all the detail we’ve gotten. No details regarding what type of injury (other than it being characterized as a “lower leg” injury) have been revealed. For that reason, and because I have no education or experience in sports medicine, I’m not going to speculate on what exactly it might be. Message board reports have been floating around for around 24 hours about the exact nature of the injury, but nothing is confirmed yet.

Weigman started off the season putting up extremely impressive numbers. He led the Aggies to offensive production almost unrivaled since Jimbo has arrived here, acquitted himself well against one of the best defensive coordinators in the country even in a loss, and was poised for a huge breakout on the national stage.

If this report ends up being true, it will be the third straight season where the original starter at quarterback for Texas A&M football suffers a season-ending injury. The silver lining is the experience and skill level that the backup for Texas A&M football, Max Johnson, will bring to the position (as we saw on Saturday), but this is still a yet another tough break in a long line of them for the Aggies.

UPDATE: Billy Liucci of Texags has now confirmed the news that Weigman is out for the season.
