Is Evan Stewart Playing for Texas A&M Football vs. Alabama?
Top Texas A&M Football WR a Game Time Decision
UPDATE: Stewart was seen entering Kyle Field wearing a walking boot, per Carter Karels.
UDATE 2: Stewart is dressed out and warming up, per multiple reports.
In the first half of the game between Texas A&M football and Arkansas last week, Evan Stewart had to briefly exit the game. Upon replay by the TV crew, it became evident that Stewart had his ankle rolled up while blocking for Amari Daniels downfield on a running play. He was later able to return to the game, but sustained a massive hit that certainly looked like it might have been a targeting penalty. Though there was no penalty called, the play remained an extremely impressive catch on the sideline. Stewart didn’t see much action after this point, but was on the field for an Arkansas onside kick late in the game.
Rumors have begun to surface this week regarding Stewart’s availability. Much like the rumors regarding Alabama QB Jalen Milroe, they’ve gone unconfirmed for the most part; however, Billy Liucci of Texags confirmed yesterday afternoon that Stewart had been slowed by his ankle injury and that his availability would be determined at game time. Stewart is unquestionably the most talented receiver on the Aggie squad, with not only game-breaking speed, but the ability to make difficult catches and pick up yards once he has the ball in hand. He had a banner day against the Tide in last year’s matchup, exceeding 100 receiving yards on the day and making some really impressive plays.
Even so, I have a really tough time believing that Evan would miss this game. He is the consummate competitor, and if his ankle was healthy enough for him to continue playing in the Arkansas game, I anticipate that he’ll give it a shot against the Tide as well.
Even if he is unable to go, the receiving corps for Texas A&M football is far deeper than they’ve ever been, and one of the players behind him will step up. Moose Muhammad had a huge game against Alabama last year as well. Noah Thomas is set to get back on track. Ainias Smith is doubtless ready to go to war against the Tide.
We will keep this page updated with any new information that emerges regarding Stewart.
