Oxford will reveal who Texas A&M football is in 2023

4-3 headed into the bye is not where you want to be. It is especially not where you want to be when a mere two weeks ago Texas A&M football fans were discussing whether the Aggies would be representing the West in Atlanta! Things change so quickly in college football.

It is still mathematically possible, however, for the Aggies to get to 10 wins. Is it useless to discuss that possibility right now? Probably so, yes. But it’s out there, so we need to discuss it. In Neyland, Texas A&M football did not look like a team ready to take the next step. But as I just said, things change quickly in college football. Two weeks from now, the Aggies will have (likely) beaten South Carolina, and be staring down the barrel of a trip to Oxford the next week. Ole Miss, for their part, has thus far in the season outdueled both LSU and Arkansas, and been shut down against Alabama.

The Aggies are much better equipped to deal with the Rebels than they were last year. They boast a much worse defense than the Vols (though a better downfield passing game), and Texas A&M football is obviously much better against the run than they were that fateful night last year where they yielded 393 yards on the ground to Ole Miss. Will it be enough for the Aggies to get a win on the road against what will in all likelihood be a top-15 team? Not as currently constituted. Some things will have to change, and quickly. Max will have to figure some things out, as will the offensive line. The good news is that there are still two weeks before the Ags have to face this consequential challenge. The bad news is that we really have zero reason to believe that they will make the necessary changes.

But that won’t stop me from doing it all the same! Because I am a clown in maroon colored paint.
