Texas A&M Football Player One of Nation’s Best Per CBS Sports

I don’t want to toot my own horn too much when it comes to prognostication—if this Texas A&M football season is any indication, I pick too much with my heart and not enough with my head—but when I wrote this very morning that Edgerrin Cooper should be picked as an all-American this season, I had no idea that this announcement was coming down the pike. Well, bask in the glory of my predictive accuracy!

Coop has been playing out of his mind this year, and it’s been a joy to see. He was an absolute monster against Alabama, sacking Milroe three times and forcing a fumble once on a crushing blindside hit.

The CBS sports crew has gotten an up-close look at Cooper’s dominance over the past two weeks, as the Aggies have featured on the network both of the last two Saturdays. Of course, neither was a win for Texas A&M football, but that was far from the Aggie defense’s fault. Cooper and his unit have been playing at a championship level by almost any metric (except for explosive passing plays, of course). It’s been awesome to watch 45 unlock his full potential that we’ve seen flashes of throughout his time in College Station. There was a moment in the offseason where it seemed like Coop might transfer out, but the coaching staff was able to reel him back in—and I’m sure glad they did. He might be the MVP of this Texas A&M football team so far this year, and he’s certainly the player with the best shot to end the year on an All-American list as well.

Next. The case for retaining Jimbo Fisher. dark
