Big 12 contenders looked like pretenders

After the Red River Rivalry two weeks ago, both OU and Texas were the talk of the college football world. Here today, they’re still a hot topic, but for much different reasons. UCF, who blew a huge lead against lowly Baylor earlier in the season, took Oklahoma right down to the wire in Norman. Gus Malzahn had things dialed up throughout the day, answering Oklahoma’s scores time and time again with big plays, and the Knight defense looked stronger than expected against a high-powered Sooner unit. A failed two-point conversion by UCF ended up letting the Sooners off the hook when all was said and done.

Eager, I’m sure, to laugh at their cross-border rivals, Horn fans cheerily turned on their TVs to watch their team after posting horribly half-baked opinions on Twitter. Though said team went up 21-0, the Cougars closed the gap to tie the game and matched the steers blow for blow from that point. It took Texas boosters hitting their comically oversized bright red “PAY THE REFS” button to salvage this game for the Horns, causing one official to give the Cougs a horrendous spot on a third down play and make this face when Holgo complained.

Something to watch here is the fact that Quinn Ewers went down with injury in the late third quarter, bringing in Maalik Murphy to finish the game in his stead. If Ewers misses an extended period of time, can Murphy sustain the level of play necessary for sip to achieve their cute little funny little dreams? Why haven’t we seen Louisiana 2A high school legend Arch Manning yet? Why didn’t Sark put him in? Is he stupid?
