Former Texas A&M Football Player Now Having Issues At Division Rival?

Texas A&M football experienced more than their fair share of issues last year on the field, so the issues off the field only served to further the misery of the Maroon and White faithful. One such incident—by far the most major—occurred after the South Carolina game and involved four freshmen. No details were ever confirmed, so I will not be reporting them, but it is not hard to find several accounts of what took place. Whatever it was, it resulted in the suspension of four members of the talented 2022 class: DL Anthony Lucas, OL PJ Williams, WR Chris Marshall, and DB Denver Harris. All four of these were composite top-100 players, and all but Williams had seen significant playing time to that point in the season, even though this was not the first incident for a couple of the players.

When the offseason began, all four of these players transferred out. Williams headed to SMU, Lucas to USC, but Marshall and Harris stayed in-division, heading to Ole Miss and LSU respectively. Marshall has already left the Ole Miss program, and did so before the season started, but Denver Harris remains at LSU. That said, he has faced his fair share of trouble in Baton Rouge. He did not play in the first game against Florida State, and there were cryptic comments made by Brian Kelly that led many to believe that Harris was suspended. After that point, though, it appeared that Harris was back on the right track.

In recent days, though, it looks like there may be issues once more. Kelly again characterized Harris’s status as “inactive” heading into the Army game, and now reporting has emerged per multiple sources saying that Harris, along with fellow LSU corner Duce Chestnut, are unavailable to even practice with the team.

Could this be disciplinary? There are certainly signs that point to a set of recurring issues with Harris, though nothing is confirmed. It’s worth noting that Kelly says both Harris and Chestnut are still enrolled at the school and taking classes, even going so far as to say they are both still part of the program.

For Harris on a personal level, you hope he gets things straightened out. With regard to Texas A&M football and their struggles last year, though, this—along with what happened with Chris Marshall down at Ole Miss—does indeed provide some justification for the idea that the locker room issues were not the result of Jimbo having lost control, contra the conjecture of many fans. LSU has a bye this week and will face Alabama on November 4.
