Texas A&M Football Recruiting Takes Another Blow; Prospect Flips to LSU
Texas A&M Football Recruiting Continues to Wobble
The last two losses for Texas A&M football have demoralized a significant section of the fanbase; and the way they have lingered over the bye week certainly has not helped. Though both losses were close and in games in which the Aggies were not favored, the Maroon and White faithful felt as though these losses should have been wins. One of the chief concerns for several fans was the effect this stretch could have on recruiting, and with good reason—top-100 prospect Drelon Miller decommitted last week, and now more bad news has come down the pike, as OT prospect Weston Davis has flipped his commitment to the rival LSU Tigers.
Davis had been committed to the Aggies since June, and was one of the players who helped kick off the massive run Texas A&M football had in recruiting over the summer. His commitment kind of came out of nowhere; he hadn’t set a commitment date or time, and intel around his decision was hard to come by for the recruiting experts. It was thought all along that the Tigers were one of his finalists, and now, with Miller decommitting and seemingly also headed towards Baton Rouge, Davis decided to make a similar decision.
Davis is a classic case of a split opinion, as far as his quality—some sites have him as a top-20 player, some have him barely in the top 200. Turning on the tape, though, it’s hard to deny his physicality and ability at the tackle position. Addazio, for his faults on the field this year, has recruited well, so this is a position where you could afford to take a hit—but you never want to lose a highly-rated recruit, especially to an in-division rival. The worry now is that fellow Texas A&M football commit Tyanthony Smith, a four-star linebacker who is good friends with both Davis and Miller, may be rethinking his status as well. Of course, some good play on the field by the Aggies down the stretch might do much to stem the tide there.
