Week 9 Texas A&M Football Report Card: Defense Continues Dominance
Grading Every Position for Texas A&M Football after South Carolina Win
All in all, not the worst showing in the world for Texas A&M football. We’ve certainly seen sleepier offensive performances after a bye week, and the defense really stood strong most of the afternoon. Let’s dive in and give out some grades.
Quarterback: It’s hard to complain about a day where Max took only three sacks all day (all on the first drive), didn’t turn the ball over, notched nearly 250 yards on over 8 YPA, etc etc. Still, though, Texas A&M football fans can’t help but feel this Aggie offense would be far more dominant if Conner Weigman was back there. Max was passable today, but he’ll need to be better on these upcoming road trips. GRADE: B
Wide Receivers: I could nitpick here and there about this position group, but for the most part they continue to get things done. Stewart, Smith, Thomas, and company are getting open, even if the ball isn’t being thrown to them. Ainias especially had a huge game, with some great yards after the catch. GRADE: A-
Running Backs: Does it count as nitpicking if I harp on pass pro? That’s the biggest area of improvement still needed on this team. Owens shows flashes, but has trouble staying alive through contact sometimes. Daniels looks great in the open field and can get defenders turned around, but he doesn’t have the game-breaking speed of the other two. Hopefully Moss gets better soon to return this three-headed monster to its full potential. GRADE: C+
Offensive Line: A much-maligned group, but I really don’t think they did awful against the Gamecocks. The Texas A&M football coaching staff continued to call runs between the tackles on a lot of first downs, and the Gamecock defense began to key in on that. It’s hard to beat numbers, no matter how good your technique is. There’s a lot of room for improvement, but they’re not as terrible as a group as so many think they are. GRADE: C+
