QB for Texas A&M football will light it up

This one is a bit dependent on who the Aggies are rolling out at signal caller here, but assuming it’s Max Johnson (which most indications point towards), the passing game for the Ags face their easiest matchup since the ULM Warhawks rolled into town in the middle of September. This is a dreadful pass defense that the Aggies are facing, and Johnson was able last week to tear up an Ole Miss pass defense that ranked much higher in most categories than this Bulldog unit. That game was on the road, and this one will be at home; and whatever injury Johnson is dealing with, all reporting points towards the fact that he was also dealing with it during the game against the Rebels.

Even if the Aggies are forced to go to Jaylan Henderson, however, things should still go well for the Aggies through the air when all is said and done. State is the worst team in the conference as regards defensive PPA/pass, meaning it is extremely easy for teams to create value when passing the ball against this Bulldog defense. If Henderson is the guy, I expect the offensive staff to try and dumb things down for him, which, given how convoluted the regular offense can be, could be a boon for a guy without much experience in the system. Some simple reads and RPOs could go a long way with the talent the Aggies have at receiver, and with Henderson’s mobility, the Aggies could conceivably rely more on the run than the pass game, just mixing in enough passes to keep the defense honest. Hopefully Max Johnson will be the guy, as he gives the Aggies the best chance to win, but even if it is Henderson, I’m not concerned with the offense’s ability to put up more points than the Bulldogs.
