Kyle Field comes alive for Texas A&M football

There’s been a lot of talk—far too much talk, if you ask me—about how a lack of fan support due to apathy towards the program will diminish attendance and environment in this last home SEC game of the year. I’m not buying it. There is a culture of turning up the intensity at home games that pervades Texas A&M football, and it takes more than just two or three years to turn that around. This is something that has been part of the school and its identity for too long for the tides to turn drastically in such a short time. Secondary ticket markets seem to indicate that there will still be a great turnout for this one. The weather should be fine, if maybe a bit cold. Additionally, this will be only the second home night game of the season, which should add to the turnout.

This fanbase still has a decent team to cheer on. For however disappointing things end up being in the win/loss column, this is a top-20 if not top-15 team by most advanced metrics. They feature a dominant defensive unit, which Aggie fans have a special love for seeing and cheering on. This is a game where that side of the ball should really wreck shop. Like it or not, too, for however much animus the average fan feels towards Jimbo at the moment, there is still a strong love for the team on the field, and fans—students especially, in my opinion—will show up to support these seniors in their final home conference game.

This will be the most intimidating environment that the Bulldogs have played in this year. I don’t foresee them handling it well, especially if the defense is able to play up to par. I see a lot of three and outs coming for State, and maybe even a defensive score for Texas A&M football if everything falls the Aggies way. That would really get the crowd going.
