Texas A&M Football is Bowl Bound

I and most every Aggie fan realize that the standard for this program is far higher than being bowl eligible in a given season. This is a program that, with the resources afforded it, should be competing for championships. That said, given the events of the past two years, to be assured (barring something completely unexpected) that the team will indeed get that opportunity to compete in a bowl is something I have a new appreciation for.

Of course, Texas A&M football qualified for a bowl in 2021, but they were unable to compete in it due to COVID making its way through the program at an extremely inopportune time. We all know what transpired last year, but the season still ended strongly with a win over LSU. It is somewhat strange to think that when the Aggies play in their bowl game next month, they will be doing so for the first time since Jimbo stood on the stage in South Florida and declared “we ain’t done yet”.

The job’s not finished yet, though. This should be an easy win for the Aggies next week against Abilene Christian, and an opportunity to continue to get some reps for the depth on this team. But the game that awaits following that final home contest is a narrative maker for this team. If the Aggies are able to defeat LSU on the road—LSU, the darlings of the media throughout the season for how well Jayden Daniels and that Tiger offense has played, but somehow staring a four-loss season directly in the face if things were to go sideways against the Aggies—then that would be massive. You’re competing with them for some very key recruits. It’s a true rivalry again since Jimbo has arrived. You had better believe they have this one circled after what happened last year. Get to that 8-win mark, and you could be bowling in Florida. After what we saw from the offense here, it’s not all that hard to imagine.
