Longtime Sports Talk Host Calls for Prime to Texas A&M Football

In a dream headline for SEO gurus, Stephen A. Smith has called for Deion Sanders to replace Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M Football. While I cannot say this is one of the most poorly thought-out things I have heard Stephen A. Smith in particular say, I can indeed confirm it is in the bottom 10% in general.

Can Deion recruit? Yes he can, and extremely well at that. Can he win on the field? Uhhhhhhh

What was it that Jimbo was so good at again? Recruiting, right? And what was it that ultimately got him fired? An inability to win at a level commensurate with that recruiting, you say? So hear me out. Let’s replace him with someone who is currently showcasing those exact same qualities. This, truly, is wisdom.

Sanders is in the midst of a downward spiral at Colorado. He recently demoted the best coach on his staff, now-former offensive coordinator Sean Lewis, and promoted a man who has now failed to reach the season-average yards per play mark in both games he has overseen the offense. Against Oregon State, he notched an impressive -7 total rushing yards. It’s not like Colorado had a dynamic rushing attack beforehand, but that’s pretty awful.

Anyone familiar with Coach Prime from before the last couple of years should know that this is a poor idea. Check out what happened with Prime Academy up in Dallas—there’s a concerning trend going on here. Would this be a bombastic, splash hire? Without a doubt. Would this be a hire that leads Texas A&M football to the promised land? Almost certainly not. Please stop suggesting it.
