As the shock of the timing of the decision to dismiss Jimbo Fisher as head coach for Texas A&M Football wears off, Aggie fans, along with several others, are beginning to survey the coaching market. As they do so, names and suggestions are beginning to emerge for coaches who may be able to fill the opening left by Fisher as the head man of the Aggies. Some of these names are good, and some… are not!
As most fans of a school who have conducted a football coaching search at this level know, there are sometimes names thrown out just to stir the pot. Other times, names are floated by agents in order to increase their client’s perceived value; maybe even parlay those rumors into a raise! We saw this during Auburn’s search with a certain name that falls somewhere on this list. All that to say, don’t believe everything you’re reading during this time. We can all trust that the institution will be working as quickly as possible in order to get a coach secured in short order—hopefully by national signing day. Of course, that won’t be possible in several instances and with several of the names I’m mentioning here, but that is doubtless the goal.
