Texas A&M Football Stretches Lead Late; Hands Elijah Robinson First Win as HC

I think at one point in the third quarter of this game, there were a lot of Texas A&M football fans who felt pretty dissatisfied with how things were going. When the Wildcats, after notching a field goal for their only offensive score of the day, got the ball back with a chance to score and cut the lead to seven, I saw a lot of disgruntled Aggie fans on social media. What happened to the team we saw last week that was having so much fun and getting whatever they wanted on offense?

Well, I have my theories, but you can’t deny that this team has been through a lot over the past week. The dismissal of Fisher and ascension of Robinson wasn’t exactly nothing. It’s also eminently possible that the Aggies may have had a little bit of look-ahead syndrome in this one, for which you can’t exactly blame them. That LSU game is going to be a huge one, and with the kickoff being at noon, there’s a big opportunity for the Aggies.

Regardless of some of the struggles we saw, we also saw a lot of great things from this Texas A&M football team. The defense has now gone two weeks in a row only allowing single-digit scores (though the actual score of the game, as has too often been the case this year, doesn’t reflect that thanks to a non-offensive touchdown). There was a marked emphasis on having Jaylen push the ball down the field, which was his biggest area of struggle last week—and he did a great job of it. That sort of work-out-the-kinks approach to this game again makes sense when you consider who the opponent was and who you’ll be facing next Saturday. And as we now know, a couple of other teams have come into a game this Saturday without that being their goal and have still lost to much lesser opponents. Jahdae had another huge game—beginning to emerge in a big way. We saw Evan Stewart return to action. Moose made one of the most spectacular plays we’ve ever seen out of him, which is saying something. Marcel Reed and Jaden Platt notched their first collegiate scores. And how about the 12th Man kickoff team? So awesome to see that back in Kyle Field.

Overall, despite a slower start, this was a great vibes game for the team. They did, in fact, have fun out there, and the Aggies still notched a decisive win. It wasn’t a huge blowout, but we did see that this version of Texas A&M football is indeed capable of that even as recently as last week. Now prep starts for the biggest opponent left this year, and a chance to exorcise some major demons.
