Texas A&M Football Interim Coach Elijah Robinson Meets with the Media
Ahead of the game against LSU, the Interim Head Coach for Texas A&M football, Elijah Robinson, met with the media. You can view his presser here or in the video below.
Here are some notes from his remarks.
Coach Robinson opened with a brief statement about how proud he was of the team for the win before jumping right into questions. His first was about how things were as an acting head coach for the first time. He expressed his gratitude for the recently promoted Tony Jerod-Eddie, to whom he delegated the DL coaching responsibilities while he was jumping around and coaching up different positions. After that, a question came in about last year’s LSU game and how everything came together there. Robinson mentioned that it was a great response by a team who had had a down year, but that there were a lot of things this year that were different.
There was a lot made this weekend of changes surrounding the program now that Robinson is in charge—music at practices, Petrino’s presence on the sideline, Moose wearing sleeves, the list goes on. Asked about how he decided to implement changes, coach Robinson mentioned that the entire staff met and decided on the ways to best keep the players together and focused for the upcoming game. In that vein, he said that his approach would probably be a little different this week as far as competitive periods in practice due to the difference in opponent.
He praised LSU QB Jayden Daniels and the stellar season that he has been having down on the Bayou. Similarly, he spoke highly of the receivers for the Tigers, saying that they would pose a great challenge to the Aggie players—but one that this Texas A&M football team is looking forward to.
Another practice of Jimbo’s that has come under fire is that of leaving for away games on Thursday rather than Friday. Asked when the team would be departing, Robinson said that it would be Friday, but he was emphatic that if it were a normal week, it would be Thursday—due to classes finishing for the week on Tuesday, he said, things were substantially different in this case.
Asked about the success that Moose Muhammad had in this previous week and if the coaches were calling more plays to get the ball to him, Robinson downplayed it, saying that it was a result of Jaylen and Moose making plays and not a difference in how the game was being called by the coaches. He emphasized how excited and happy he was for Moose and the success he has had.
