Texas A&M Basketball Notches Huge Comeback Win Behind Washington’s 18 Points

Texas A&M basketball, without two of their top players in Henry Coleman and Tyrece Radford, looked to be sluggish out of the gate and dead in the water early in the first half against the Cyclones. The Aggies, doubtless due to being down some of their top personnel, had fallen behind 35-14. Throughout the end of the half and into the second, however, the Aggies mounted a 16-0 run that put them right back into the game. From that point on, despite the best efforts of Iowa State and the refs, it felt like the Aggies were inevitable.

The 72-69 final score doesn’t quite reflect how dominant the Aggies were in the second half. They stifled the Cyclones for much of the final 25 minutes of game time, but several bungled calls by the referees, including but not limited to 1) giving the ball to the Cyclones after calling basket interference by them and 2) calling an unreviewable made basket by an Iowa State player who had a foot out of bounds when he released the shot, kept things closer than they otherwise would have.

I would be remiss to not mention the great game that Solomon Washington had. Washington, maturing into an NBA-level defender before our very eyes, showed up big time, leading the Texas A&M basketball team with 18 points (3/4 from 3 point range, by the way) and adding 6 rebounds to go with it. If his offense can supplement the big three of Radford, Taylor, and Coleman to this degree, this Aggie Hoops squad has a real chance to make some noise in March.

Texas A&M basketball will face Virginia in Charlottesville on Wednesday at 6:15 PM in another chance to add a quad 1 win ahead of the conference slate kicking up in the new year.
