Definitive Timeline of Events for Texas A&M Football Schianoing Mark Stoops

Before you ask—yes, even though this just happened with Texas A&M football, I am terming it “Schianoing.” This is now just what it is called.

So if you went to bed early last night, you may have missed a very crazy couple of hours for Texas A&M football. With that in mind, I have decided to compile a running timeline of what happened and when, for your reading pleasure and convenience! Let’s jump in.

At around 8:51 PM central time, Mark Passwaters of Rivals tweeted the following:

This ignited a firestorm, as Billy Liucci soon posted a similar sentiment over on Texags, and FootballScoop looked to be saying the same thing

9:41 PM: FootballScoop says “all momentum” favors A&M hiring Stoops:

Fans were not pleased. Neither, apparently, were the players. Tweets started to roll in about an hour later.

There were several other tweets from Texas A&M football players, but they were all along the same lines as this one.

10:22 PM:  You could tell this was real, as A&M beat reporters (such as Passwaters) started trying to soften the blow:

10:23 PM: The architect of the original “Schianoing,” Clay Travis himself, has this to say:

10:29 PM: Josh Pate remarks upon the nature of the fan reaction from A&M:

At this point it began to be pretty clear that this is not something that Texas A&M football fans were just going to eventually be quiet about. As Josh said, this is a potential hire to which almost everyone reacted very poorly.

10:48 PM: A glimmer of hope for the anti-Stoops brigade. Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle reiterated that it’s not a done deal:

10:50 PM: Meanwhile, the player reactions are still coming in… and they’re still mostly negative. It seems that almost all of the players would rather see Elijah Robinson keep the job, all things being equal. Jacoby Mathews puts out a long social media post stumping for Robinson:

11:00 PM: In what he would later call a “guess,” AggiesToday says this on Twitter which turns out to be a remarkable prognostication:

11:04 PM: Adam Rittenberg of ESPN says this in a not-so-cryptic tweet as the groundswell against Stoops continues:

11:16 PM: Finally, the news breaks. KYSportsRadio, a big player on the Kentucky beat, says it’s not happening:

11:20 PM: Liucci confirms Matt’s reporting.

11:22 PM: Mark Passwaters, whose original tweet was the canary in the coal mine, says it’s not happening.

There are many more reactions that came down the pike afterwards, as you might expect. But that’s how quickly this all happened and then didn’t happen: just about two and half hours. This is truly remarkable.
