Projecting Texas A&M Football’s Staff: Defensive Coordinator – Elijah Robinson

It should be pretty evident that Elko will be the one mainly in charge of the defensive scheme and play calling, just like Saban at Bama and Smart at UGA. With that in mind, I think that Robinson is a great choice for the defensive coordinator spot here. This would feature him as a major player on the staff, increasing his impact on the recruiting trail that much more, and help ensure he doesn’t get snatched up by any other program looking to utilize his acumen for themselves.

Robinson has done an admirable job as the interim head coach for the Aggies, despite the loss to LSU last week. By all accounts, the players have noticed a marked difference in a very positive way under Robinson as compared to the previous regime, and many were stumping for him to get the head job.

For that reason, I think Robinson, in addition to his DC duties, will also retain the associate head coaching title that he had previously. I also see him continuing with a level of responsibility at the DL position, as the position under his tutelage was one of the most productive in the nation this year. This would give him the triple title of DC/AHC/DL coach. This isn’t all too different than his previous title, but I think you have to continue elevating a talent like this to keep him in the organization—though, by all accounts, he’s not a guy looking to leave.

So who might serve on the defensive staff under Robinson and Elko? Let’s take a look.
