Five Names to Know for Texas A&M Football’s Offensive Coordinator Search

Now that Texas A&M football has their top hire completed in new head man Mike Elko, the attention of Aggie fans turns to how the staff gets filled out. The most important piece, of course, is that of offensive coordinator. It is pretty clear that Elko will have a huge hand on the defensive side, and all signs point to the defensive coordinator job having already been offered to current interim coach Elijah Robinson, with his acceptance only a question of timing at this point. Given the immense amount of offensive talent on campus and incoming via recruiting, though, not to mention the failure thus far to harness the potential of that talent, the hire on that side of the ball is key.

We’ve seen flashes of the talent get shown from time to time. Of course, at the beginning of the season with Conner Weigman, we were treated to no shortage of explosive plays, and even later in the season we saw a very efficient and consistent offense (though pretty inexplosive) more often than not. Without 15 behind center, though, it was seldom to see both the explosiveness and the consistency. Even in that latter portion of the year, it all too often felt as though the team was laboring for easy yards in the passing game—of course, the fact that the team was operating with a third-string QB, talented as he is, had to contribute to that.

So as Elko begins his search, what are some of the names that we as Texas A&M football fans can be on the lookout for? Where might the new Aggie head man be leaning in his search? Here are the top five names that might get a look for the job.
