Texas A&M Football Transfer Portal Update: Three Aggies Enter
Update on the Portal Activity for Texas A&M Football
Even though the portal has been open for a much longer amount of time for Texas A&M football than other teams, the level of outbound activity has been quite low when compared to other squads. There’s been much speculation and circling of the proverbial buzzards, especially with regard to one specific player, but there has been remarkably little action. That said, a couple of players, including one notable name, have made their way into the portal.
Max Johnson, QB
This was pretty expected after two straight years of being named the backup. Johnson has already committed to North Carolina, where he will play for his third straight national championship-winning coach. That’s got to be some sort of strange record.
The biggest point of speculation here is whether his brother might follow suit. The two arrived in College Station in the same year, but are they a package deal? There haven’t been any rumblings of Jake looking elsewhere at this point, but it wouldn’t be the most surprising thing in the world if he elected to make a move. Still, though, the draw of playing with Weigman is as strong as playing behind him is dissuading, so Jake might be comfortable staying with Texas A&M football for at least another year.
Remington Strickland, IOL
Strickland was an unheralded three-star prospect from the 2021 class that insiders were nevertheless really high on as a developmental prospect. He saw little time as a backup center behind both Foster and Nabou, but in the snaps he did have, he flashed. Having him around, especially as Nabou sees more time at guard rather than center, would have been a great backup option to Foster, who has dealt with a couple of injuries.
Jordan Moko, OL
This was another name expected to be in the portal, but for quite different reasons. Moko was not involved with the Texas A&M football team for the latter part of the season after an arrest for violating a protective order. As a player, he was another developmental JUCO take for the Aggies who had gotten on the field pretty irregularly. Whether this transfer would have occurred without the off-field incidents, I’m not sure, but that’s beside the point here. It’ll be interesting to see where he ends up—hopefully a change of scenery can help keep Moko out of trouble in the future.
The Aggies have been pretty active in the portal in sending out offers thus far, mostly with receivers so far. I’ll be interested to see how his portal strategy differs from Fisher’s; I expect Texas A&M football to be more active, but to what degree I am unsure.
