Nolen Reportedly Still Has Texas A&M Football High on List Despite Portal Announcement

Mitigating last night’s news that star defensive lineman for Texas A&M football, Walter Nolen, would be entering the transfer portal, reports have emerged that the Aggies are still at the top of the list for the talented defender.

According to Steve Wiltfong, Elko and the Aggies still “remain in the picture” for Nolen and are in fact at the top of his list. The uncertainty around the program seems to be a big deal for this decision from what was said in the article. The Aggies, though they just hired a new defensive line coach in Sean Spencer, have yet to hire an offensive or defensive coordinator. Insiders have been dropping hints indicating that Elko is close to hiring a DC, but no official announcement has yet been made.

The rumor mill is working overtime on this one, as you might expect. If you were to believe what people have been saying, Nolen was going to enter the portal no matter who was retained or let go; if this were true, it certainly changes the picture somewhat here. In that case, it would seem more like a formality, with Texas A&M football still having a good chance to hold onto him; if he were going to enter the portal no matter whether Robinson were retained or not, then the longtime DL coach’s move to Syracuse—while certainly not a plus—is no longer seen as a lethal blow to the Aggies’ chances.

That’s all speculation, however. In the above article, Walt’s father does speak highly of coach Robinson and the relationship between the two. Hopefully Elko and Spencer can get in Nolen’s ear sooner rather than later and convince him to stick around as the anchor of what will be an amazing defense for the Aggies next year.
