Top Needs from Transfer Portal for Texas A&M Football
From all indications, it looks like the new regime for Texas A&M football under Mike Elko will be markedly more active in the transfer portal than the previous set of coaches. Elko has been on the job less than two weeks, and he has already sent out numerous offers to portal players across the country—both those from Power 5 schools and the lower levels.
For the part of Texas A&M football, the Aggies haven’t quite seen the level of outward movement that some might have feared. Texas A&M only has about five players that have entered the portal officially, though Walter Nolen has indicated that he might be entering. Nothing has gone official there yet, however.
Even so, for both prophylactic purposes and realized needs, Texas A&M football would do well to be active in the portal. There will be holes and production gaps that open up on the roster, both in expected and unexpected places. After the success of a guy like Jahdae Walker, and the loss of Ainias Smith to the NFL, receiver might be a spot where the 2024 Aggies could use an immediate-impact player. Defensive back would be a huge priority. Linebacker is another one that could use some attention.
That said, who could the Aggies be targeting? Who might land in College Station when all is said and done? Let’s take a look.
