5-star Eric McFarland’s quote on Mike Elko shows why his recruiting success will last

Texas A&M just picked up another massive commitment, and his quote after the fact shows why they can expect that success to keep going.

Texas A&M fans are still basking in the glow of winning out for their final high-level receiver target in the class of 2027 in Eric McFarland III, who committed late yesterday afternoon. McFarland brings some unbelievable gifts to the receiver position, and has drawn comparisons to Mario Craver and Christian Kirk.

McFarland is the latest in a long line of high-level players to declare their commitment to Texas A&M football, and it looks like the Aggies are not going to stop anytime soon. The Aggies are all but running away with the no. 1 class in the upcoming cycle, and it’s going to be extremely difficult for any other school to catch up with them.

During his commitment ceremony on the CBS Sports College Football channel, McFarland laid out just why he decided to choose Texas A&M over heavyweights like Georgia and Florida, and his answer— while unsurprising to Aggie fans in a certain way— also is telling for just how reliable and repeatable Mike Elko’s recruiting success is going to be.

Texas A&M 5-star receiver commit Eric McFarland says just why the Aggies are going to keep recruiting at a high level

The entire ceremony is worth watching for Aggie fans, and you can find it at this link or in the video below.

Here’s what McFarland had to say about Mike Elko and why he committed—and why that success is repeatable.

"When I first went up there, I got a little spark. Being up there, Coach Wiggins, being the receivers coach… we had a great connection up there. Me and Coach Elko, he really just didn’t give me no bull, really… you could tell he was telling me the real [stuff]. My plan in the offense just seemed great."

Mike Elko’s no-nonsense demeanor and willingness to tell it like it is has been a big point of positivity for Texas A&M fans, but it’s good to see that paying off in the recruiting world as well. He’s also meticulous when it comes to his planning, so it’s no surprise to see McFarland speak to how detailed his plan is in the offense. That’s not all, though: the trajectory of the program under the Aggie head man is also attractive to a guy like McFarland.

"You could tell what he’s put into the program. We’ve been there— we’ve seen the proof is in the pudding… I want to be a part of that."
Eric McFarland

McFarland mentioned the South Carolina game in particular as one that stuck out to him as a culture moment for the Aggies. For those who don’t know, Texas A&M was down 30-3 at halftime before coming all the way back to win 31-30.

That’s exciting for fans and impressive in and of itself, but what McFarland (and other recruits) saw was a master motivator and tactician at work in the Aggies’ head man. Something needed to change in a big way for Texas A&M in that game, and Mike Elko made it happen.

These are simply more encouraging signs for Texas A&M in a cycle where they are building the foundation of a national championship-level class. McFarland’s words are showing what many recruits are thinking— and it’s all positive for the Aggies.
