Texas A&M football is in line for a massive string of commitments this upcoming week, but some are more clear-cut than others. The Aggies are looking to add to their no. 1-ranked class in a big way this week, but while some decisions have been pretty clearly telegraphed, there are one or two that will bring Texas A&M fans down to the wire.

One of those, surprisingly, is that of five-star offensive lineman Albert Simien. The big interior guard from Lake Charles, LA, has been high on Texas A&M for quite some time now, but as his decision date approaches, things are murkier than they ever have been for Aggie fans.

Texas A&M was predicted to land Simien all the way back in September by Steve Wiltfong of Rivals, but no decision was made. Now, Simien is set to go public with his choice of school this Friday, June 26, and Aggie fans are hoping against hope he’ll make three five-star offensive linemen in the class.

Texas A&M already has commitments from two five-stars along the offensive line in Kennedy Brown and Mark Matthews, both of whom project at tackle. Simien’s destination in college is going to be on the interior of the offensive line, so he would fit well alongside those other two high-level recruits.

While that seemed like a foregone conclusion beforehand, now, things are shrouded in a little bit of mystery for Texas A&M fans. LSU was thought to have a lot of momentum for Simien only a few weeks ago, but after a visit to South Bend, you’re hearing more and more chatter about the Irish vs. the Aggies for Simien’s signature.

The positive spin here is that, no matter who is mentioned, the Aggies are mentioned alongside them. If the common denominator is the maroon and white, you have to take that as a big time plus, as the Ags have been the constant throughout.

The negative is that being the constant is going to be faint consolation if the pick ends up going the way of Lane Kiffin or Marcus Freeman. Texas A&M needs to win this recruitment if they want to challenge their illustrious 2022 record for the best class of all time, which is still within reach if growing tougher by the day.

All in all, this is one that the Aggie faithful are going to want to follow very closely here in the coming days. As Friday gets closer and closer, we’ll get some more clarity— a lot of picks are on the Aggies right now, but if we see those start to flip, it will give fans a good idea of where things are trending.
