Texas A&M football just picked up a commitment from Carthage (TX) linebacker DaQuives Beck, current (and now, apparently, future) teammate of running back commitment KJ Edwards. This is a big win for the Aggies over both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, not to mention an addition of a guy whose off-the-edge speed will give Aggie fans flashes of Edgerrin Cooper.

Beck becomes the second linebacker pledge in this recruiting class, joining Storm Miller of Ohio in the 2026 cycle. The Aggies are not done yet, though, as they still have an eye on Port Arthur's Tank King and possibly former Auburn commit JaMichael Garrett.

Beck is a top-200 player by the composite rankings, and just outside the top 150 by 247Sports' in-house rankings. He currently stands at just over 6 feet tall and 215 pounds— a solidly built, if a bit short, guy for SEC ball. Of course, the Aggies have seen success from a guy with a similar frame in Taurean York.

Between the two high-level products from Carthage High School, most thought it likely that Beck would commit to the Aggies before KJ Edwards did. However, Edwards flipped that notion on its head when he announced well ahead of his previously-decided August 2 date, breaking Longhorn hearts in the process.

Beck moved up his commitment to July 1 at that point, and now has made things official for the Aggies as well. He is a well-decorated player at the high school level, winning defensive MVP of the state championship in 2024— a game in which he recorded 10 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 1 sack.

He's probably not a day-one starter when he arrives in Aggieland, but he will be an intriguing and exciting piece for Mike Elko on this defense. This is a great start to a month where we hopefully are writing a lot of these commitment posts, as the Aggies have a bunch of targets set to announce her
