A&M poised to take advantage of 5-star, recent Oregon decommit with visit scheduled

Texas A&M recently scheduled a visit with one of the luminaries in the class of 2026, and recent events have cast even more intrigue on that upcoming visit.

When five-star Oregon commit Richard Wesley put out his official visit list recently, one that included Texas A&M football, headlines were made. Wesley had only very recently committed to the Ducks, and here he was putting out a list of all of the other schools he was going to visit around the country, though Oregon was also on the list.

This didn't seem like a guy that was committed to the Ducks in the strictest sense of the word, though that terminology has grown quite expansive in its semantic ragne with regard to recruiting. Texas A&M, as well as the other schools on that list, were looking to take advantage of their opportunity to move Wesley off of his commitment to the Ducks.

Now, at least one part of that job is apparently done. As of late last night, Wesley is no longer listed as a commit to the Ducks, as he has apparently walked back that recent decision— and the Aggies have a chance to take advantage.

Texas A&M can benefit from Oregon losing out on five-star Richard Wesley's commitment

Texas A&M has been after Wesley for quite some time as they grow their connections out in the Golden State. Wesley would be the biggest fish they've landed out that way (though with Brandon Arrington's commitment pending for early July, that could change), but the commitment to Oregon seemed like a huge setback for their chances.

Apparently, all is toil, vanity, and but dust in the wind! At least when it comes to Oregon commitments, I mean.

Well, this one. Maybe not a great analogy.

This is a brand new ballgame now, and the Aggies need to take advantage. They're facing down some stiff competition, especially with their rivals in Austin, but the Aggies can stand in there with the best of them and win out on these high-leverage battles.

It won't be easy, by any means. The Aggies have their work cut out for them in a big way. But if Mike Elko and company want to compete in the SEC, this is the kind of battle they have to win.
