Texas A&M football needs to tackle well in order to defeat Auburn this weekend

It may sound simple, but Texas A&M football needs to tackle well if they want a win this weekend.

In one sense, that's maybe the most obvious thing you could say, and it applies to every single football team in the nation. But it is particularly pressing in the case of the Aggies.

We've seen already that, in the Aggies' two losses, they had an inordinate amount of missed tackles. It's not shocking that those would go hand in hand, but the disparity between wins and losses really is kind of surprising—it's not marginal in the slightest.

The challenge facing the Aggies this weekend is not dissimilar from the one they failed three weeks ago in Columbia, South Carolina. Payton Thorne is no LaNorris Sellers, but Jarquez Hunter is quite the formidable foe at the running back position.

Take a look at the graph above. Up there in a cluster with Notre Dame and Washington is the Auburn Tigers—patently elite at forcing missed tackles and picking up yards after contact.

This is due in no small measure to Hunter's physical ability. He is an absolute load to bring down, just like Sanders and Sellers, so the Aggies better have their chinstraps buckled.

The tone needs to be set early on in this one. We know this is a physical defense and one that can tackle well—we've seen it over and over this year. But if the Tigers are able to win that battle of physicality, turn 2-yard gains into 4-or-5-yard gains consistently, this will be a tough game for the Aggies to win.

"Just tackle better" is the epitome of easier said than done. The Aggies need to figure out a way to be about it, rather than just talk about it, in this upcoming game.
